[Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei] The Temburong Bridge, Brunei's largest infrastructure project in history, has officially opened to traffic. This engineering marvel connects Brunei's mainland with the Temburong district, eliminating the century-old dependence on transit through Malaysia or ferries. Travel time between the two regions has been slashed from 2 hours to just 15 minutes, revolutionizing mobility for Bruneian citizens.
Chinese expertise played a pivotal role in the project's success: Handan China Railway Bridge Machinery Co., Ltd. supplied the complete construction equipment package, including 1 set of Launching Gantry, 6 sets of Form Travellers, along with Straddle Carriers, Gantry Cranes, and Overhead Cranes. These critical systems ensured the project's timely and high-quality completion.
During the inauguration ceremony, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah announced that the mega-bridge linking Brunei-Muara and Temburong districts will be formally named the "Sultan Haji Omar 'Ali Saifuddien Bridge" (SOAS Bridge), honoring the legacy of his late father, Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien III, who pioneered Brunei's modern development.
