The South Korea–Myanmar Friendship Bridge (also known as Dala Bridge), a four-lane cable-stayed structure connecting Yangon’s Lanmadaw and Dala townships, marks a transformative infrastructure project for Myanmar. Initiated in 2013 with construction commencing in 2015, this cable steel bridge faced multiple interruptions before resuming work this year.
Upon completion, the bridge will provide safer and more efficient passage for approximately 1.5 million residents of Dala Township in Yangon’s Southern District. Integrated water pipes within the bridge design will additionally alleviate seasonal water scarcity during the March-May hot season. Without this critical link, the district remains isolated from Yangon’s economic growth.
HCR (Handan China Railway Bridge Machinery Co., Ltd.) supplied a custom-engineered Launching Gantry (LG) to Utracon Group for this strategically vital project in central Yangon. The LG’s primary task is erecting approach roads on both sides of the main bridge, reaching elevations of 45 meters above ground. A significant engineering challenge is the approach road’s 6% longitudinal slope.
Precision Engineering Highlights:
▶Slope-Conforming Design: Main trusses dynamically align with the approach road gradient during self-launching and I-girder erection
▶Optimized Structure: Reduced support leg height results in a lighter, more compact system
▶Heavy-Lift Performance: Successfully handles I-girders up to 44.9m in length and 145 tons in weight
HCR's solution directly addresses the project’s geographical constraints, demonstrating our commitment to innovation in complex infrastructure environments.
